Sharing our Philosophy of Fire

For as long as there have been humans, we have gathered round fires to cook. Our food is a cut above caveman fare, but our elevated classics still hold the memory of communality, comfort, and stories.

We can’t think of a better way to get out of the office and have some fun with your team than learning how to cook a delicious fire-cooked lunch, from building the fire and receiving a masterclass from our own butcher to watching as the fire gently crisps your asparagus. You will enjoy your meal with our local whisky, Glenkinchie, before rounding off the day with a tour of the distillery itself.

We take inspiration from the contemporary Nordic approach of incorporating fire into every stage of cooking. We also know a lot about American barbecue and Argentinian asado, which we’d love to share with you, using local and seasonal produce.

Itinerary

  • 8.00 – transport from Edinburgh to our venue in East Lothian.
  • 9.00 – coffee and bacon rolls waiting for you when you get there.
  • 9.30 – an introduction to fire lighting, wood types, and charcoal making, with optional wood chopping race.
  • 10.00 – make a start on lunch: slow cooking, curing and salting.
  • 12.00 – butchery tour and demo with John Gilmour Butchers.
  • 13.30 – finish cooking a communal lunch.
  • 14.30 – eating the lunch, accompanied by our local whisky, Glenkinchie, local wines and beers.
  • 16.00 – a tour of Glenkinchie distillery.
  • 17.30 – return to Edinburgh by luxury transfer.
